Allied Gemmological Institute and Laboratory (AGIL) was established in 08.12.1999 under the sole proprietorship of Dayananda Dillimuni in order to conduct teaching courses in gemmology and also to carry out the service of gemstone testing. In the same year this institute received the Allied Teaching Centre (ATC) status under the worldwide ATC programme of Gem-A (Gemmological Association of Great Britain) to conduct their gemmology courses in Sri Lanka. AGIL received the Accredited Teaching Centre Status under Gem-A in 2007, naming as the Accredited Teaching Centre of Gem-A in Sri Lanka.
Today Allied Gemmological Institute & Laboratory is the only ATC of Gem-A in Sri Lanka to conduct the Foundation and Diploma Courses in Gemmology of Gem-A . These two courses in gemmology are conducted in accordance with the regulations of the Ofqual - The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation which regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.
AGIL is also registered as the teaching centre to conduct Foundation and Diploma Courses of Gem-A under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka with effect from 23.04.2014, renewable every 2 years. Present renewal is upto 2018. Registered No.PO1/0606.
